Rosaline who?

Romeo and Juliet opens with a melancholy Romeo in despair over his unrequited love for Rosaline.  By the end of Act II, Scene II, he has forgotten her completely, and is engaged to Juliet.

How is Romeo's love for Juliet different from what he felt for Rosaline?  How do you feel about Romeo, knowing that he was just in love with another girl a few hours before?  And why did Shakespeare choose to include the Rosaline storyline in the play?

Respond using SPECIFIC DETAILS from the play!

Could it happen today?

In To Kill a Mockingbird, Tom Robinson, a black man, is convicted of raping Mayella Ewell, a white woman, in spite of a complete lack of evidence.
The story takes place in Maycomb, Alabama, in 1935--a deeply racist time and place.
The question is, could something like this happen today?  Why or why not?
